6/30/2023 0 Comments The Tapestry by Nancy Bilyeau![]() ![]() Instead he leads her to an outbuilding where he attempts to kill her. ![]() Upon arriving at Whitehall’s gatehouse, a page offers to take her to the Keeper of the Great Wardrobe, who is in charge of tapestries. While she travels, she feels watched, but sees no one. And she knows it’s not wise to ignore a kingly order. She’s not a fan of King Henry, but she is anxious to see her cousin, Catherine Howard, who is one of the queen’s maids of honor. When the king, who is a distant cousin, orders her to the Palace of Whitehall in London to receive a commission for a tapestry, she has mixed emotions. After having her priory demolished by decree of King Henry VIII during the English Reformation, Joanna finds herself living contentedly in the small English town of Dartford, weaving elegant tapestries that provide her an income. This is Nancy Bilyeau’s third installment of the trials and tribulations of former novice of the Dominican order and aristocrat Joanna Stafford. ![]() 6/30/2023 0 Comments Montrose by John Buchan![]() ![]() I'm currently looking for my next IT leadership opportunity. A true leader is someone who helps us find it, recognize it, and succeed with it. It means being actively aware of and involved in their professional lives - giving them encouragement to do the right thing, helping them find their greatness, recognizing them each as special, and finding opportunities for them to be heroes. That doesn't just mean sending staff to training classes, or providing annual employee reviews. And so I strongly believe that a core role and duty of a leader is not just developing strategies and aligning people to them, but developing those people, too. People want to see themselves, and be seen as, the hero of their own story ( as John Barth put it).īut we all need help, sometimes, to find that greatness within us. I believe that people try to do the right thing, try to be good, seek to be great, and desire to be recognized as special. I have that quotation on my resume, and I'm often asked why, or what it means to me. John Buchan (1875-1940) Scottish novelist, poet, and politician Governor-General of Canada (1935 -1940). ❝The task of leadership is not to put greatness into humanity, but to elicit it, for the greatness is already there.❞ ![]() |
